Utah Teapot!!

This object is historically one of the first complex 3D models to be rendered in computer graphics. It consisted of about 110 vertices, and was generated by Martin Newell in 1974 using hand-drawn Bezier curves, based on a real teapot that he and his wife had bought. This model served as a basis for comparing various 3D rendering methodologies for lighting, textures, bump-mapping, etc. By the standards of 2002, the model is trivial to render and thus is often not suited to demonstrate the complexity of modern research. Despite this, the tea pot still appears, now and then, in recent papers. The teapot was made by Melitta in 1974 and originally belonged to Martin Newell and his wife, Sandra - who purchased it from ZCMI, (a department store in Salt Lake City).

The teapot was eventually donated to the Boston Computer Museum but now resides in the Ephemera collection of the Computer History Museum.

It's catalogued as "Teapot used for Computer Graphics rendering" and bears the catalogue number X00398.1984

GDrive - google drive

Googles GDrive is no longer a rumor. GDrive is on its way and soon me like many others will be uploading/backing up my whole hard drive in case of a HD crash.

But there are some points to ponder:
  1. How does google wish to implement it.. do we need to install some google application.. will there be a web based interface.
  2. Is GDrive is simply going to be a network share allowing most applications to take advantage of this service without modification?
  3. Can I really really upload my whole harddrive (all 160 GB)?!?! How long is it going to take to do that?!?!
  4. Do i have to pay anything in order to get the service??
  5. Can i trust google with my files?
  6. Do i need to create a new account for it or my existing gmail account will work?
  7. Can i allow other people to access my GDrive.
  8. I wonder how Google will monetize a service like this??

My Bengal of gold, I love you

My Bengal of gold, I love you
Forever your skies, your air set my heart in tune
as if it were a flute,
In Spring, Oh mother mine, the fragrance from
your mango-groves makes me wild with joy-
Ah, what a thrill!
In Autumn, Oh mother mine,
in the full-blossomed paddy fields,
I have seen spread all over - sweet smiles!
Ah, what a beauty, what shades, what an affection
and what a tenderness!
What a quilt have you spread at the feet of
banyan trees and along the banks of rivers!
Oh mother mine, words from your lips are like
Nectar to my ears!
Ah, what a thrill!
If sadness, Oh mother mine, casts a gloom on your face,
my eyes are filled with tears!

hilsha party

poltu mamu: james of sweden

Badminton...

Yesterday 6 of us played badminton in the sports arena here in norrköping. We played for 2 long hours even though we booked the court for one hour. Mahboob and Wali bhai were the sponsers. It took 80 kroner after showing my student card.. the normal price is 160 kroner. Among the others were.. polash, aziz, wang and me. Faisal was also with us.. but he didn't play.. just enjoyed our match. There were others who couldn't make it.

There were other empty courts.. very few people.. so none of us were sitting. We continued playing (for one more hour) even when our allocated time of one hour was finished.. since most courts were empty. Wali was our couch.. a good one. He is a regular player and has won many prizes and trophys. It was good badminton... playing for two long hours without any break made me very tired.

I must say.. I think i play badminton very good. Lot lot better then basketball and tt. If i play on a regular basis.. then i can be a champion :) ;) ;)

After the match.. some of us went to polash room. There me, aziz, polash and rahul bhai took sauna for one hour. It was really fun.. and very hot.. but it took the pain (from badminton) from our body.

Then we had the most tasty fish in the whole world, hilsha. Walli bhai got this fish from stockholm.. its imported from bangladesh (expensive 55 kroner per kg). Polash is a good cook.. made the hilsha fish really good. We had it with rice. I along with others had lots of fun.. took pictures made jokes and talked for long hours. By the time me aziz and faisal bhai got home it was 2:00 in the night.... i checked my mails wrote a few lines in my blog and went to sleep ;)

testing.. time of post..

the time now is saturday, march 25, 10:40

another big day

today i had a wonderful day without any study... played badminton for two hours... took sauna for one hour.. had lots of fun with my friends in polash's room.. eat rice with hilsha fish.. and got a long long long long mail from someone.

i am now too tired to write anything more..

big bug in msn8 beta

The picture is not very clear.. but due to a bug (a big one) i was talking to myself in messenger 8.0 beta version :) I am not kidding!! rEdhEat talking to rEdhEat in the same computer. It even told me that rEdhEat is not added in your list.. so i added rEdhEat!! After some time the window changed and now i was talking to zaheer.

a day in my life..

What a day I have had today.. full of surprises.. and fun and hate and love and anger and sadness. All this feelings spiced together gave me a strange feeling ;-)

We all live in the same roof.. yet there is so much difference among us in so many ways. People always think in different ways and its always hard to find out who is right or wronge or whats the correct way to go. Sometime i feel like cultural difference is a plague.. why cant we all eat the same food and think the same way.. and follow the same path. But this is how we are made.. and one must learn to live with it. And maybe we should have this cultural difference among us.. otherwise the evolution of human society would stop... and man whose life line is so much tangled/interwined with society and culture would become extinct.

Today I met a life long friend (best-friend) on the net after a long time. It was so good talking to him. Made me feel like I was back in Bangladesh. I want to go back to Bangladesh and smell the warm air.. drink lots of tea (with lots of sugar and lemon) and have kabab with nun... and ofcourse have lots of late night 'addas' with friends.

In conclusion.. it was a great day for me.. experiance is what makes a man perfect.. which I intend to be one. Love for all - hate for none is the way for me.

...and also I gained a monkey friend!!

Table tennis..

it is almost 3:00 in the night and i have had too many cups of tea and coffee.. dont feel like sleeping.

Today... or more preciously yesterday i played tt from 20:00 to 22:00 in the night. I like this game very much and it was fun playing. I played tt only a couple of times (3 or 4) before coming to sweden. We have tt in the basement in bollen and some other student apartments here in norrköping. I have played many times after coming here.. and i am improving. But i am still the worst among all the players... still can't return all the serves and dont know how to smash. So i am a novice. Its very difficult to control such a small and light tt ball. It is nearly impossible for me to return zahir bhai's serves. My return shots always goes either on the left or right of the table - outside :(

There was little bear, jason, aziz bhai, zahir bhai.. and me. Among them i thought zahir bhai, jason and aziz bhai plays really well. Little bear has her own style of playing.. monkey style ;-).. but is also realy good in it. While i play more like a sleeping guy just standing and moving my bat around... my long arms seems to help me with my style. We played doubles and since we were five.. one of us had to sit down in each round. I had my slipers on so it was a bit uncomfertable moving with them... though wearing keds would not have made much of an improvement.

I will be playing more of it.. but still have some back problems - sucks.

my life + internet connection

My 2 week free internet connection for the new room has ended this morning. And i am now upstairs in Zaheers room checking my mails and writing something here. My life is now very much dependent on the internet. Everyday after getting up from bed.. i start my machine and check my mails.. look at the news.. start my msn messenger.. look at my blog.. go through new movies in movies.yahoo.com and so on. My life as a student is also oriented around the net. I get the lectures and research papers and the assignement and the code for my projects.. and tutorial... all from the internet. I buy electronic stuffs from the internet.. one of my favourite site is tomshardware.com.. i look into it every day. Its a great site for new products.. and the reviews are really good.

Its hard to notice that you are so much dependent on the net until you are really kept away from it.. like i am now. Dont know what to do.. its so boring doing nothing in the room. I need to start a new project.. but without the internet it seems impossible.

I must say..the internet connection that we have in our student apartments are no ordinary lines. We are connected using optical fibres with 100mbps download speed and 10mbps upload speed. And all this bandwidth we get for 180kroner only for each month. Now who would like to be kept away from such a high speed connection at such a low price... certainly not me.

But i will get my connection back soon.. and soon i will enjoy going through some new product reviews in tomshardware.com and ofcourse start my project. Until then i have to figure out what to do.. maybe clean my room... re-install matlab 7 agian.. maybe have some chinease tea without any sugar (tastes like hot water).

Robbie Williams - Feel

Come on hold my hand,
I wanna contact the living.
Not sure I understand,
This role I’ve been given.

I sit and talk to god
And he just laughs at my plans,
My head speaks a language, I don’t understand.

(chorus)
I just wanna feel real love,
Feel the home that I live in.
’cause I got too much life,
Running through my veins, going to waste.

I don’t wanna die,
But I ain’t keen on living either.
Before I fall in love,
I’m preparing to leave her.
I scare myself to death,
That’s why I keep on running.
Before I’ve arrived, I can see myself coming.

(chorus)
I just wanna feel real love,
Feel the home that I live in.
’cause I got too much life,
Running through my veins, going to waste.

And I need to feel, real love
And a life ever after.
I cannot get enough.

(instrumental)

(chorus)
I just wanna feel real love,
Feel the home that I live in,
I got too much love,
Running through my veins, going to waste.

I just wanna feel real love,
In a life ever after
There’s a hole in my soul,
You can see it in my face, it’s a real big place.

(instrumental)

Come and hold my hand,
I wanna contact the living,
Not sure I understand,
This role I’ve been given

Not sure I understand.
Not sure I understand.
Not sure I understand.
Not sure I understand.

top 10 reasons not to smoke

  1. It is estimated that every cigarette you smoke takes 12 minutes off of your life
  2. Smoking causes more than eight of every 10 cases of lung cancer. There is no cure for lung cancer and the Victims usually die within five years.
  3. Tobacco contains a poison called nicotine. An injection of one drop of nicotine in its purest form (70 mg) will kill an average-sized man. Cigarettes contain a very small amount of nicotine (between .1 and 2.2 mg). This amount will not kill you, but will make your heart beat faster and can make your hands shake.
  4. Smoking increases your risk of getting many serious diseases including cancer, heart disease, emphysema and bronchitis
  5. Fires started by cigarettes cause 25,000 deaths each year in the United States alone.
  6. Smoking is dangerous for nonsmokers who breath the smoke from smokers' cigarettes. During the 12 minutes a cigarette burns, smoke from the cigarette fills the room with poisonous gases.
  7. Smokeless tobacco increases the risks of mouth cancer and other diseases of the mouth like tooth decay and gum recession. Early signs of mouth cancer may occur after just a few years of use.
  8. Smoking during pregnancy can harm the developing baby, it can cause conditions such as low birth weight and premature birth. As the child grows older it may develop problems such as the ability to process what they are hearing and ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactive Disorder).
  9. Over 400,000 Americans die each year from smoking-related diseases. That's more than from AIDS, alcohol, car accidents, fires, illegal drugs, murders and suicides combined.
  10. A very strong relationship exists between smoking and academic performance. Of all high school seniors with an A average in their senior year, only 7% were currently daily smokers; of those with a D average, 46% were daily smokers.
There are more than 4,000 chemicals found in cigarettes (250 are toxic poisons, 50 cause cancer) Some chemicals found in tobacco include: Ammonia (found in toilet bowl cleaner); Arsenic (ingredient in rat poison); Polonium 210 (nuclear waste); Carbon Monoxide (car exhaust); Acetone (used in finger nail polish remover). Nicotine remains in the body for 8 to 12 hours after a single use of tobacco.

aidda abar keda... halai ekkhan rakhkhoss

coldest winter in 10 years..

Swedish winter is far from over... looks like it has just started. Today like most other days.. there was heavy snow. Now, is that good for someone comming from a hot hot country like Bangladesh :( And astonishingly its almost the middle of March!! When the hell are these fluffy white stuff going to stop falling from the sky!! Most swedish are now on the north having a lifetime of joy with there snow skates... they never get tired of snow. I say.. this winter cold is killing me... each time i go out.. my bones and balls and teeth start making cluttering sound. And my face just freezes to a point where my brain can no longer send electrical signals to my facial muscles - to ask them to contract and relax so that i can have some sort of verbal communications. I turn dumb... and also numb in my fingers.. both in feet and hand. Even my poor big ears are not spared from the numbness. Believe me.. its damn painful when you can't feel anything!!

snow form my apartment

How on earth does it snow so heavily in the middle of March ... thats because Northern Europe is going through the phase of coldest winter in 10 years. What luck.. last year they say it was the warmest winter.. and now its the coolest coldest winter. Obviously the coldest parts of Sweden this winter is in the north, as always. But southern Sweden is also seeing temperatures fall further below the average... and also drier with a weaker (face piercing) west wind than usual.

So what do I do.. well i just stay home.. tucked away in the corner of the room.. as close as possible to the heater.. and surf the net - looking for some faint hint of this horrible, terrible, miserable winter to end. I thought my luck had come back to me.. when i saw the sun shining ever so bright with its 1000....00^999999 watt power. But alas.. the sun was doing nothing to warm up this winter.. it was making the snow melt and in that way making all the cold come out of the ground and make the temperature fall far below zero!! So the lesson is.. its better to be outside when there is snow then when there is sun. Because by some Swedish law.. the temperature is always close but below zero when its snowing.

At the end of the day.. I am a proud man :) I get to face the coolest winter in 10 years.. are you so damn lucky like me?? Care to join me...

I rarely write anything in my blog.. because i am not good with my english. But i got inspired from Jenny's blog and thought i should put my pen to the paper or make use of my flat stylish laptop like keyboard from Logitech - 300 kroner. This will atleast make my blog look like a blog rather than some picture/foto warehouse.

just for fun: understanding engineers

Understanding Engineers - Take One
Two engineering students were walking across a university campus
when one said, "Where did you get such a great bike?"
The second engineer replied, "Well, I was walking along yesterday, minding my own business, when a beautiful woman rode up on this bike, threw it to the ground, took off all her clothes and said, "Take what you want."
The second engineer nodded approvingly and said, "Good choice; the clothes probably wouldn't have fitted you anyway."

Understanding Engineers - Take Two
To the optimist, the glass is half full.
To the pessimist, the glass is half empty.
To the engineer, the glass is twice as big as it needs to be.

Understanding Engineers - Take Three
A priest, a doctor, and an engineer were waiting one morning for a particularly slow group of golfers.
The engineer fumed, "What's with those blokes? We must have been waiting for fifteen minutes!"
The doctor chimed in, "I don't know, but I've never seen such inept golf!"
The priest said, "Here comes the green keeper. Let's have a word with him."
He said, "Hello, George! what's wrong with that group ahead of us? They're rather slow, aren't they?"
The green keeper replied, "Oh, yes. That's a group of blind fire fighters. They lost their sight saving our clubhouse from a fire last year, so we always let them play for free anytime."
The group fell silent for a moment.
The priest said, "That's so sad. I think I will say a special prayer for them tonight."
The doctor said, "Good idea. I'm going to contact my ophthalmologist colleague and see if there's anything he can do for them."
The engineer said, "Why can't they play at night?"

Understanding Engineers - Take Four
What is the difference between mechanical engineers and civil engineers?
Mechanical engineers build weapons and civil engineers build targets.

Understanding Engineers - Take Five
The graduate with a science degree asks, "Why does it work?"
The graduate with an engineering degree asks, "How does it work?"
The graduate with an accounting degree asks, "How much will it cost?"
The graduate with an arts degree asks, "Do you want fries with that?"

Understanding Engineers - Take Six
Three engineering students were gathered together discussing the possible designers of the human body. One said, "It was a mechanical engineer. Just look at all the joints."
Another said, "No, it was an electrical engineer. The nervous system has many thousands of electrical connections."
The last one said, "No, actually it had to have been a civil engineer. Who else would run a toxic waste pipeline through a recreational area?"

Understanding Engineers - Take Seven
Normal people believe that if it isn't broke, don't fix it. Engineers believe that if it ain't broke, it doesn't have enough features yet.

Understanding Engineers - Take Eight
An engineer was crossing a road one day, when a frog called out to him and said, "If you kiss me, I'll turn into a beautiful princess." He
bent over, picked up the frog and put it in his pocket.
The frog spoke up again and said, "If you kiss me and turn me back into a beautiful princess, I will stay with you for oneweek."
The engineer took the frog out of his pocket, smiled at it and returned it to the pocket. The frog then cried out, "If you kiss me and turn me back into a Princess, I'll stay with you for one week and do ANYTHING you want."
Again, the engineer took the frog out, smiled at it and put it back into his pocket.
Finally, the frog asked, "What is the matter? I've told you I'm a beautiful princess, and that I'll stay with you for one week and do anything you want. Why won't you kiss me?"
The engineer said, "Look, I'm an engineer. I don't have time for a girlfriend, but a talking frog, now that's cool."
